Highways Maintenance Services
Highways Maintenance Services
Our Highways Maintenance Team is responsible for the upkeep and safety of Portsmouth’s roads, pavements, gullies, road markings, street furniture, grounds, and trees. We work proactively and responsively to ensure the city’s network remains safe, reliable, and wellmaintained.
Inspections
Our dedicated team of Colas Safety Inspectors carries out scheduled inspections across the city every month and every six months. These inspections identify any defects or potential safety concerns on the highway network. All issues are logged and passed to our maintenance teams, who plan and deliver the necessary repairs.
Potholes & Paving
We respond to pothole and paving issues according to their urgency. Once identified, safety critical defects are temporarily made safe within one hour and a permanent repair will be completed within 28 days. All other repairs are prioritised, scheduled, and completed within a sixmonth period.
Drains & Gullies
To help prevent flooding during periods of heavy rainfall, our team operates a comprehensive gullycleansing programme. Every drain and gully in Portsmouth is cleaned on a twoyear cycle. In addition, we respond promptly to adhoc reports of blockages to keep water flowing effectively across the network.
Safety Barriers & Fencing
Safety barriers and fencing are vital for protecting road users and pedestrians. Our teams ensure any damaged or worn sections are repaired or replaced quickly once identified or reported.
Street Furniture
We maintain and replace all street furniture across the city, including signs, bollards, benches, cycle racks, and more. Our aim is to keep Portsmouth’s streets functional, safe, and welcoming.
Road Markings
To support the safety of drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, all road markings undergo inspection on a twoyear cycle. Any markings that fall below required standards are refreshed or repainted.
