Work Experience Students
14 04 2026
Colas Portsmouth were able to invite 2 young men into the depot for work experience in March 2026. Logan Newbury joined the Electrical Engineering team on the 2nd March 2026. Logan, a year 10 student from Havant Academy had such a great week shadowing and observing that he has asked to come again in the summer for another week with the Street Lighting team.
Connor Mitchell, age 16 joined us the following week from the Kings Trust, he spent time observing a variety of Colas service roles to learn about different aspects of the business and operational services. He was shown an overview of everything and how it all comes together working as a team.
Both of these young men showed enthusiasm and held potential employability for a future at Colas and the Portsmouth depot already have a further 7 more work experience students lined up for 2026 to do work experience.
As an introduction to Colas, students are invited into the depot (with their parents) prior to any work experience commencing to enable the team to meet the candidate and answer any questions the student and their parents may have about the company and the different work experience roles on offer. It is a valuable opportunity for Colas to assess the student’s interests, and it is felt beneficial to the whole work experience process. If a student has a chosen path and career, they always try and accommodate them into the aspect of work experience they are interested in.
